Pros

  • Brings the power of Photoshop to editing and organizing photos

Cons

  • Can no longer be unlocked since Adobe discontinued support in June of 2009
  • Has been replaced by Adobe Revel

Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition is excellent software to help you organize and create albums of your photos. Unfortunately, if you did not register your copy of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition by June 30, 2009, you can't use the software, because Adobe is no longer supporting the product or offering unlocking codes.

There is some good news, though. Adobe has created a free service called Revel to replace and improve the feature set of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. Revel lets you upload, edit, organize, caption, make albums, and share photos and videos with friends, family or the world. Albums are available as private web image galleries that you can choose to share if you like. In addition, you can create shared photo and video libraries with your friends and family. Signing up is easy, and you can use Google, Facebook or a free Adobe ID to get started.

Adobe's vision for Revel is to create a place where your entire family can keep all of your precious photos and videos. When you invite friends or family members to join a Group Library, they’re able to see everyone's photos and videos as if it were a digital scrapbook. This can be a fun way to share photos or videos of a family vacation, a wedding that some family members couldn't attend or share photos of your children as they grow. Since your photos and videos are stored securely in the cloud, your entire family or group can access them on their smartphones, tablets and computers. You don't have to worry that Uncle Gerald still uses XP while Aunt Myra uses a Mac.

Anyone who has been invited to the shared library is also able to add his or her own photos and videos. No more storing photos in large, unorganized boxes or spending hours putting photos into bulky leather albums. This way, everyone’s memories are in one place for the entire family or group of friends to enjoy.

Free Revel accounts come with 2 GB of storage, while a premium account has unlimited storage. You can access Revel from your PC, Mac, iOS device or Android device. Revel supports most common image and video files, including raw image files from digital cameras such as the ones sold by Canon, Sony, Epson, Fuji, Kodak and Olympus.

If you have an iPhone, Mac or iPad, you can upload photos and videos directly to Revel using iPhoto. On other platforms, you can use tools like Photoshop Elements, Adobe Premier Elements, Photoshop Express, Grouppix or Lightroom.

Revel truly is a full replacement for Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. You can learn more about Revel here.
